The hens play a very important role here at Happy Chicken Bakery. The girls are
like our family and they are the reason behind the name! We got our first batch
of chicks in 2010 and we have been hooked ever since. We started with 9 White
Leg Horns. Over the years we have added and added and at our highest count
had almost 50 hens and almost 20 different varieties! We continue to
add on and expand each and every year. We love them!
The girls serve multiple purposes on the farm. First and foremost, the eggs! Currently
we collect anywhere from 6-24 eggs a day depending on the season and the number of
hens we have. That adds up rather quickly! They also provide the farm with excellent
bug control and the fertilizer they produce for our gardens is like no other!
The girls are allowed to free range during the day and they are
closed up at night to protect them from predators. They spend their
days foraging for bugs and seeds, basking in the sunlight, and eating
whatever scraps we have from the kitchen! We love our hens and we
hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

on and around the farm from our very own spokes-chicken, Henrietta!
